Parsons’ Deister Presents at International Conference on Climate Change and Regional Drought Preparedness
PASADENA, CA – Parsons announced that Ane Deister, vice president for its environmental division, participated in the 2013 APEC Climate Symposium, which took place in Jakarta, Indonesia, from November 11–13. This annual event, hosted by the APEC Climate Center (APCC), brings together around 100 scientists, representatives of national hydrological and meteorological services, academics, policymakers, and other stakeholders from around the world to discuss emerging issues in climate prediction and climate information applications.
The 2013 symposium specifically explored the importance of advance climate information for supporting drought preparedness and disaster management, particularly on a regional basis, with elected officials. Ms. Deister gave a presentation during the session on Use of Drought Information for Policy and Decision Making. She focused on the need for collaboration, shared visioning and trust building among scientific experts who predict climate impacts, engineers and resource managers who help mitigate and respond to climate impacts, policy makers who make decisions on which actions they will fund, and the public so they can participate in and support those decisions.
“We were excited and honored to learn that Ane was invited to speak at the 2013 APEC Climate Symposium,” said Virginia Grebbien, Parsons group president. “This prestigious international event provided Ane with an opportunity to give voice to her unique perspective, spanning from private consulting to public policy and hydrological education organizations.”
