“ Smaller Physician offices are beginning to learn about the impact of ICD-10 on their medical practices and updating their software to be compliant is one of the first steps in achieving compliance” continues Rachael.

This new version of Medisoft Version 19 with ICD-10 compatibility will allow medical offices and medical billers and coders to convert the existing ICD-9 codes to whats called a General Equivalency Mapping of a identical ICD-10 code.  However physicians should not think that is all to the new codeset.  “Each medical practice must begin now” urges Rachael Lynn, "to begin learning about the impact of ICD-10 in their office and how to code for the new codeset and implement a training plan.  Just the number of codes increase from approx 17,000 to 140,000.  Diagnosis codes are used in many areas of a medical practice from Superbills, Labs, ABN’s, contracts, policies and prcedures, forms, government and outside reporting, nursing and more.

“Not only are doctors required to begin using the new ICD-10 codes, a greater and more urgent deadline looms even sooner” says Rachael.  That deadline begins in Jan of 2014 with the adoption of a new insurance claim form that insurances will begin to allow with final deadline of April of 2014.  This means that all users of Medisoft medical billing software must upgrade their software by that deadline because older versions of the software will not allow the use of the new form.

Existing users of Medisoft are encouraged to contact www.medicalbillingsoftware.com for pricing and additional training and services relating to the ICD-10 implementation.
