During November blood may be donated at three Metro stations. The stations where the donation rooms will be set up are Nuevos Ministerios, Ciudad Universitaria and Embajadores. This year the aim will be to top the over 3,100 donations of 2012. 150,000 new metro maps will be distributed indicating the stations that are equipped with donation rooms
After the excellent results of previous years, for the third time running Cruz Roja, Metro de Madrid and Coca-Cola Iberian Partners, the Coca-Cola bottler in Spain and Portugal, have decided to set in operation the campaign “You’re a metro away from saving many lives”. Besides achieving the largest possible number of donors, the aim is to better the figures of the November 2012 campaign, during which more than 3,100 people decided to donate their blood at the rooms specially set up for the occasion at Metro stations.

Nuevos Ministerios will be the first station to have a donation room, from 4-8 November, followed afterwards by Ciudad Universitaria, at which it will remain for two weeks (11-15 and 18-22), while the last station to have the room will be Embajadores, where users will be able to donate from 25-30 November.

The favourable results of previous campaigns act as a motivating force for the three entities to eager to press on with this initiative, through which help is successfully offered to many Madrilenians. During 2011 and 2012 over 6,000 people were successfully encouraged to donate blood at these centres.

As a token of gratitude for their altruistic gesture and as part of the campaign “Share a Coke”, everyone who attends the opening of the campaign will receive a can or bottle of coke personalized with their name. In addition, all donors will be given a free cinema ticket, and those donating at Ciudad Universitaria Station will be offered a coupon that they may exchange for a snack with the purchase of a 350 cl glass bottle of Coca-Cola or Fanta.

In the previous two campaigns the metro station with the most donations was Ciudad Universitaria, which is the reason why this year faith has been pinned in university students as the main target public and campaign length extended from one to two weeks accordingly.

To get across to more young people, the campaign will continue to be announced and publicized via the social networks to inform them as to how, when and where they may make their contribution. As of 3 November, Coca-Cola will be publishing daily news items in Facebook, Twitter, Happing and Tuenti. Furthermore, for the first time this campaign will be publicized with the distribution of 150,000 new metro maps, in which the stations equipped with donation rooms will be specially marked

Anyone over 18 years of age who weighs more than 50 kilograms and is in a good state of health may become a donor. In addition, it is possible to donate 3-4 times a year and it is only necessary to wait two months between one donation and another.

After witnessing such a favourable response received always from its users, Metro de Madrid is ready to cooperate with social causes, in the awareness moreover that it is the most widely means of transport and that it therefore has a tremendous capability to get across to the around two million passengers passing through its facilities every day, which it willingly makes over in order to be able to cooperate with campaigns of this kind, in which it takes part whenever possible.
