Study by Kodak Shows that Americans Choose Cameras Based on Situation

ROCHESTER, NY, Aug. 9 -- As millions of people head to the beaches, mountains and lakes to enjoy the last few weeks of summer, many will want crisp, clear pictures to remember their adventures. But many hesitate to use a more expensive camera during rugged activities or at the beach. According to a recent survey by Eastman Kodak Company, 90 percent of Americans believe that one-time-use cameras represent a great companion to more expensive cameras to capture quality images in those situations where they might not want to risk a more expensive camera.

Nearly 60 percent of Americans own more expensive film or digital cameras, but still turn to one-time-use cameras when they either want to protect their camera or if that camera isn’t available. Findings showed that 8 in 10 Americans have purchased a one-time-use camera in such situations.

The study also found that when it comes to summer fun and outdoor activities, such as going to the beach, whitewater rafting, hiking and biking, consumers are likely to use one-time-use cameras. Furthermore, when it comes to letting small children take photographs, 81 percent of Americans feel more comfortable handing a child a one-time-use camera.

“The one-time-use camera is a great, inexpensive companion to a more expensive camera for consumers who want to take quality pictures while protecting their other cameras,” said Joel Proegler, general manager, one-time-use camera and battery business, Kodak. “As families take vacations and head outdoors this summer, it’s a good idea to toss a one-time-use camera, particularly those models that can withstand water, sand and sunscreen, in your beach bag or backpack.”
