Presidio Knolls School was founded in 2008 as a San Francisco preschool, combining a progressive Reggio Emilia-inspired educational approach with intensive Mandarin language immersion. To meet the growing demand for innovative Mandarin immersion programs, Presidio Knolls School launched a K-8 program in 2012. In 2014 Presidio Knolls will have Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades, and will grow to 8th grade in subsequent years.
Presidio Knolls is a passionate and vibrant community of families, teachers, administrators, students and friends working together to celebrate and cultivate children’s innate sense of wonder through a world-class progressive Mandarin immersion education. The school takes a unique, comprehensive approach to Mandarin immersion and an inquiry-based approach to learning. Its mission is to educate and inspire our students to become creative, confident, and engaged global citizens.
Parents have expressed their enthusiasm for Presidio Knolls School:
“We have been thrilled with the school, and our children have thrived.” – Sarah R.
“When moving to San Francisco from Shanghai, we looked for a school that would give our daughter continued exposure to Mandarin, but in a less traditional setting. We’ve found that at PKS.” – Helena N.
“It’s been surprising to us that our son has picked up Mandarin so quickly. Speaking full sentences, asking questions in Mandarin, translating words a lot. He seems to be very excited about knowing another language and getting to speak it around the house, sing songs to us in Mandarin, and more.” – Suzy C.
“I can’t say enough about how much this school has helped and supported our kids.” – David W.
Recently the school recruited Dr. Alfonso Orsini to join as Head of School. Dr. Orsini brings over thirty years of experience in education to PKS, including more than ten years in international posts. Most recently he was Head of School at The International School in Portland, Oregon, a Spanish-, Chinese- and Japanese-immersion, International Baccalaureate elementary school. Previously he was the Founding Director of the Western International School of Shanghai, which grew from 17 to 720 students in 8 years.
