Alphaport Project Manager Receives Prestigious NASA Honor Award
Alphaport announces that one of its Project Managers received a prestigious NASA Honor Award for his work building STEP, NASA’s Safety and Mission Assurance (SMA) Technical Excellence Program, the only one of its kind in the Agency.
Cleveland, OH September 24, 2013—Dr. James D. May was presented with NASA’s Exceptional Public Achievement Medal in an all-hands awards ceremony held at the NASA Glenn Research Center. The medal is awarded to any individual whose significant specific achievement or substantial improvement in operations, efficiency, service, financial savings, science, or technology has contributed to the mission of NASA.
Dr. May, Learning and Development Manager for the NASA Safety Center’s Technical Excellence Office, was honored for his work building STEP, NASA’s Safety and Mission Assurance (SMA) Technical Excellence Program, the only one of its kind in the Agency. STEP is NASA’s career-oriented, professional development roadmap for SMA professionals, a voluntary program with curriculums focused on six safety engineering disciplines. Under Dr. May’s leadership, STEP has also earned five training industry excellence awards for its innovative e-learning products.
The Exceptional Public Achievement Medal is considered one of NASA’s most prestigious honor awards, approved by Administrator Charles Bolden and presented to individuals and groups of individuals who have distinguished themselves by making outstanding contributions to the Agency’s mission.
