Residents of flooded parts of Colorado began to return to their homes last week after being evacuated following historic floods.  At least 17 counties witnessed flooding that resulted in the evacuation of over 11,000 people.

As people return to their homes and businesses, some fortunate ones find buildings with little to no damage while others are not so lucky.  According to one report by the Colorado Office of Emergency Management, close to 17,500 homes may have been damaged and over 1,500 wrecked by the flood waters.

Thousands of properties face potential contamination issues from mold, bacteria, viruses and chemical contaminants.  In addition, many older homes and businesses have lead-based paints and building materials that contain asbestos.  Remediating and repairing these structures adds a whole additional level of precautionary measures.

Indoor air quality (IAQ) professionals, restoration contractors and environmental consultants from the area and surrounding states have arrived in the flooded regions to provide their expertise.   Water extraction, structural drying and testing for chemical and microbial contaminants are now underway or about to begin in many of the damaged buildings.

Many of these professionals who help communities rebuild rely on MBM Insurance Resource Center for their insurance to be able to provide this vital assistance after a natural disaster.   MBM is a full-service, independent, national insurance agency that provides coverage in all 50 states.  The company specializes in providing Workers’ Compensation and General Liability coverage that includes Contractors Pollution Liability and Professional Liability (E&O).

“Our hats go off to the professionals who are helping rebuild so many communities in Colorado following the terrible tragedy caused by the unprecedented flooding,” reported Marybeth Mainelli, President of MBM Insurance Resource Center.  “The people of Colorado are resilient and with the help of so many dedicated remediation, reconstruction and environmental professionals who are providing critical services, many people will soon be able to get back to their normal lives.”
