Safety and preparedness campaign helps local communities plan ahead for severe weather

The Weather Channel®, the world’s leading weather authority, along with its distribution partners will launch “Connect with Weather,” a new co-branded campaign that educates families and communities about the importance of weather preparedness. “Connect with Weather” combines best-in-class weather and science information from The Weather Channel with safety and preparedness tips from some of the nation’s most trusted non-profit and governmental organizations including the American Red Cross, Save the Children, the American Humane Association and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

“Connect with Weather” encourages families to plan ahead to ensure they are prepared when severe weather strikes. The campaign consists of three elements:

• Local events – Fun and interactive events to teach families how to create and put into practice their own emergency plan. Hosted by The Weather Channel and its distribution partners, the events will feature special expertise and insight on the importance of planning. Along with local officials, representatives from the American Red Cross and other Connect with Weather partners will be on hand to give life-saving information.
ConnectwithWeather.com – A robust web resource that informs and encourages families to develop their own customized severe weather plans. The site includes a family emergency plan creator, tips and resources on preparing for weather emergencies and natural disasters, activities, games and videos for kids.
• Video Contest – Individuals and families have the opportunity to submit a video depicting how they plan for severe weather and why it is important to them. Entrants have the chance to win $5,000 or be featured on The Weather Channel properties.

“The safety of our viewers is our most important responsibility and informs every decision we make regarding our coverage,” said David Kenny, chairman and CEO of The Weather Company. “Connect with Weather gives distribution providers the tools needed to integrate critical information into the services they offer, allowing their customers to be prepared for any emergency.”

Consumers turn to The Weather Channel more than any other network during severe weather. Its dedication to keeping the public safe and informed before, during and after severe weather is our primary mission. For more information about “Connect with Weather,” visit connectwithweather.com.
