Stunning Antique Bronze “Lost Wax” Crafted Garden Sculptures Now Available at Regent Antiques

Both of these garden sculptures have been crafted using what is known as “cire perdue”, or the “Lost Wax” technique. One of the ancient practices, Cire Perdue involves a bronze or brass cast being made using an artist’s sculpture as the base.

Lost Wax is so-called as a wax mould will be made from the sculpture, and then destroyed in order to unveil the bronze casting underneath, meaning that the wax mould is then “lost”.

The modern day usage of the Lost Wax technique is known as investment casting, and the process can vary between different workshops, but the general steps used to achieve the method are pretty standardised across the board.
