Teradata Blue Cross Blue Shield Users to Share Analytics Innovation at Annual IM Symposium

Wellmark, BCBS North Carolina on the agenda, will cover innovative practices in analytics and information technology adoption

The annual event is hosted by information professionals from independent Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans across the United States, and focused on best practices and innovations in the field of information management, data warehousing, and analytics. Teradata customers Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield (“Wellmark”) and BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina will be actively participating at the conference.

Jason Cooper, vice president, Business Analytics at Wellmark will lead a 9 am session on Tuesday titled “Business-Actionable Insights via Advanced Analytics” which will feature advanced analytics techniques developed on a Teradata-Aster platform, and a “real world case study focused on moving from a business opportunity to analytically-driven insights and solutions.” Cooper is responsible for company-wide business analytics and informatics at Wellmark including data governance, exploratory analyses, opportunity mining, program evaluation, client consulting and reporting; in addition to analytics strategy, tactics and oversight. Cooper has led teams at Cigna and CVS Caremark as well as experience with NASA spaceflight software.

“During my session I will be discussing advanced analytics techniques, including big data concepts like MapReduce and Aster nPath™, which are making a significant difference in analytics capabilities at Wellmark,” said Cooper. “The discussion will include some exciting case study findings and details from our use of Teradata-Aster for Data Discovery.”

Ed Broughton, Director of Information Management and Jim Smith, Data Warehouse Manager from BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina will lead a session at 1:30 on Monday called: The Extract Factory - A Business Model for Efficient Extraction of Data from the Warehouse and Improved Time to Market. The session “addresses a common need to deliver data from the data warehouse to our internal and external customers.”

Teradata will also have a speaker on the program on Tuesday. Rose Cintron-Allen, Senior Industry Consultant for Healthcare will lead an interactive session on the topic: Data and Analytics for a New Healthcare Era. Topics will include data integration, leveraging big data insight and predictive analytics to enable new business processes such as member engagement and experience. The session will be held Tuesday, September 24 from 8:15 am to 8:30 am at Pod 2 in Governor’s Hall.
