The Weather Channel and Chevrolet launch "Hero Next Door" on TV and weather.com to Highlight True Local Weather Heroes
Tell us your story of an everyday local hero who made a difference in the wake of severe weather for a chance to feature their story online and on TV
ATLANTA – The Weather Company (Weather), in partnership with Chevrolet, today launched “Hero Next Door,” a new online series that features real severe weather heroes who went above and beyond to help their neighbors during or in the aftermath of a local severe weather event. The series includes six 2-3 minute episodes, with a new one launching every two weeks starting Sept. 16 through the end of the year.
Do you know someone who sounds like a “Hero Next Door”, someone who made an impact on a local community during a weather event? Nominate your own hero, and he or she could be chosen to be featured on an episode of “Hero Next Door” on The Weather Channel® and on weather.com. Submit your hero’s name, a description of the heroic act, and a photo or video to Weather’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/weatherchannel. The contest will run from Sept. 16 until Oct. 31.

An example of a featured story within the “Hero Next Door” series includes an episode from Hurricane Isaac. Jesse Shaffer III lost his Louisiana home when heavy rains surged through his town’s levee. Determined not to sit back helplessly, Shaffer and his son instead grabbed boats and set out to rescue their friends and neighbors. Despite 80-mph winds and rising floodwaters, the father-son team rescued 120 people over 12 hours. Help us determine the final episode.
