Something of a veteran in the training industry the Hunter Plant Operator School, more commonly known as HPOTS, have been providing training to students in heavy machinery and High Risk Work from a 330 hectare site at Cessnock in the Hunter Valley on Australia’s Central Coast.  In their 30 years of operation HPOTS have trained thousands of students from all over Australia and have also ventured as far as Nepal, Chile, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands.

Continuing demand for their training has seen the organisation branch out again, this time with a new, purpose built, facility at 17 Glen Munro Rd Muswellbrook, in the Upper Hunter.  General Manager, Phil Stuart, said the decision to acquire a facility in the Upper Hunter was driven by the strong demand in the region and a desire to reduce travel for students.

“Once we made the decision to open a permanent facility in the Upper Hunter we looked for something suitable but too many compromises were required to use existing premises” Stuart said.

So the decision was taken to design and build the new Muswellbrook centre.  The centre has been designed to accommodate HPOTS’ wide range of High Risk Work (HRW) training programs.  There are large forklift and crane training areas as well as a designated area for Elevating Work Platform (EWP) training.  The adjacent block can accommodate earth moving plant equipment such as skid steer, front end loaders and excavators. Programs for these have been run with great feedback from participants on the quality and layout of the new facility. “The addition of our Muswellbrook site will enable us to better serve the needs of our customers in the Upper Hunter,”  General Manager, Phil Stuart said.

HPOTS will continue to provide both High Risk Work and heavy earthmoving training programs from their Cessnock site which provides an excellent training venue for earthmoving programs for graders, haul trucks, excavators and loaders.

HPOTS is popular with employers and employees the like. Anyone wishing to undertake training for the heavy vehicle industry would do well to visit their website at www.hpots.com.au or drop into the Cessnock facility and speak to one of the friendly staff in the office.
