Ever wanted to try the obstacles on American Ninja Warrior? Enthusiasm for obstacle course conquest has caught on locally: APEX Movement NorCal, a Concord parkour facility with American Ninja Warrior inspired obstacles, is hosting a training and competition on September 21st and 22nd. NBC’s American Ninja Warrior television show demonstrates impressive strength, balance, speed and adaptability throughout the Japanese inspired obstacle course competition. Signature obstacles like the Warped Wall, the Salmon Ladder and the Cliff Hanger dominate the Concord facility and offer a Bay Area American Ninja Warrior hub.

Alan Connealy, chiropractor, APEX Movement NorCal owner and three-time American Ninja Warrior contestant, started as a fan and after watching it, thought he would give the course a try. Connealy says, “People watch the show, see contestants fall, and think, I could do that!” Fans often turn into a dedicated group of athletes, transforming American Ninja Warrior viewers into a “doers.” Connealy hopes the September training and competition will make the obstacles more accessible for interested or aspiring locals.

Many people are disengaged and uninspired by the idea of traditional exercise. Connealy recently opened APEX Movement NorCal, the Bay Area’s first parkour facility. “I wanted to make a place where people could come play, train and test out their curiosity and leave smiling,” says Connealy. “There is something so raw and compelling about the (obstacle) course, and to complete it you need to hold nothing back, apply all different kinds of skills and strengths and speeds. Ultimately, it is just you and the course.” The gym schedule includes a class focusing on how to navigate the American Ninja Warrior obstacles.

Connealy’s facility, APEX Movement NorCal, is hosting their first American Ninja Warrior inspired competition. Open to ages 16 and up, the weekend event includes a training day with several American Ninja Warrior veteran contestants on Saturday, September 21st 2-4pm and a competition on Sunday, September 22nd beginning at 10am. American Ninja Warrior training day is led by veteran coaches David Campbell, Brian Kretsch, and Connealy. The trio has 13 years of American Ninja Warrior competition experience between them. Pre-registration is required at www.APEXMovementNorCal.com and spots are limited. This television show has inspired many, and now there is a local Bay Area facility to explore this emerging fitness avenue.
