MIAMI, FL - Macy’s today announced that it has raised more than $3.8 million for March of Dimes and various charitable organizations across the country as a result of the generous participation of customers nationwide in its 2013 Shop For A Cause event.

Now in its eighth year, Shop For A Cause is Macy’s unique, one-day-only shopping event that was created to support local and national charities’ fundraising efforts. Macy’s designated March of Dimes, the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health, as its national beneficiary of all proceeds of sales of Shop For A Cause savings passes in-stores and on macys.com. To date, Macy’s Shop For A Cause has raised $48 million for thousands of charities across the country.

“Macy’s Shop For A Cause program represents a meaningful way for our customers and associates to give back to those organizations that touch their hearts and lives every day,” said Martine Reardon, Macy’s chief marketing officer. “Thanks to the millions who support this program every year, we are proud to announce that more than $3.8 million was raised as a result of this year’s efforts.”

This year, more than 6,000 local charities signed up to participate. By purchasing $5 Shop For A Cause savings passes from these organizations, customers supported their favorite causes and received 25 percent off on regular, sale and clearance merchandise, as well as 10 percent off watches, furniture, mattresses and area rugs in the store all day on Saturday, Aug. 24, and were eligible to win a $500 gift card. (See savings pass for discount exclusions and restrictions. No purchase necessary to participate in sweepstakes. Official rules and alternate means of entry for sweepstakes are available at all Macy’s locations.)
