IAA information days for future engineers

The 65th International Motor Show (IAA) Cars is inviting children in their final years of school to take part in workshops and walking tours. This is already the seventh time that the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) (the organiser of the IAA) has run the information event entitled “GoIng” giving grammar school pupils the chance to find out about occupations and career opportunities in the automotive industry. Exciting lectures and a walking tour of the Frankfurt trade show grounds will provide initial insights into the activities of an engineer. At the stands representatives from manufacturers and supply firms will talk about day-to-day work and answer questions about choosing an occupation. Professors and junior engineers will also be on hand to answer the young visitors’ questions.

“GoIng” will take place every day in the second week of the IAA, from 16 to 20 September 2013. Further information on the workshops can be found on the Internet, at:Opens external link in new windowhttp://www.vda.de/de/veranstaltungen/nachwuchsfoerderung/going/index.html.

WorkING – the IAA workshop tailor-made for students – offers upcoming engineers the opportunity to talk with company representatives from technical departments and from personnel, to obtain specific insights into the wide ranging work within the automotive industry. The WorkING programme therefore focuses on lectures by practitioners. A number of different engineering subjects will be presented. Alongside vehicle-related jobs, other occupations in the industry will be showcased. The students will also gain an overview of various entry programmes and co-operation options for writing bachelor’s and master’s dissertations. After the lectures, the participants will be able to walk around the exhibition halls.

“WorkING” will take place on 19 September 2013, from 9.55 to 14.30 h, and on 20 September 2013 from 9.55 to 14.00 h. Details about the event are available online, at: Opens internal link in current windowhttp://www.iaa.de/?13-b-fv20&L=1.

The “IAA schools’ campaign” allows teachers at schools all over Germany to take their pupils on an excursion into the world of automobiles for a day. The campaign organised by the VDA supports these educational trips between 14 and 22 September by offering admission at greatly reduced prices to classes that register in advance. Teachers can organise the visit to the IAA individually with their pupils, for example focusing on environment and climate-related aspects, road safety, or the individual and social mobility of the future. The IAA offers many ways of linking a visit with social and scientific topics.

Schools wishing to take part in this programme must register their classes by 12 September. The VDA will then send them confirmation that their class is taking part. Classes that have not been registered and confirmed in advance can still enter the trade show upon payment of the regular admission fees for schoolchildren. Further information for teachers is available here: Opens internal link in current windowhttp://www.iaa.de/schulklassen.
