• Two time world champion joins Usain Bolt, Mo Farah and Richard Whitehead as part of ‘Team Virgin Media’
• Sponsorship deal agreed with double gold medal British athlete

Virgin Media, proud partner of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, today announced its sponsorship of one of Britain’s most successful athletes of all time, Christine Ohuruogu, MBE.

Born and raised in London, the UK 400m record holder added to her impressive medal tally at the 2013 World Athletics Championships last Monday, becoming the first British woman ever to claim a second individual world title, after winning the title for the first time in Osaka in 2007.

On Saturday she doubled her medal haul from Moscow with a powerful anchor leg in the 4x400m relay to secure bronze for Team GB.

Jeff Dodds, Virgin Media’s chief marketing officer said: “Christine has consistently shown that the rest just can’t keep up with her incredible speed so what better ambassador for Virgin Media and our superfast broadband? She’s part of a stellar ‘Team Virgin Media’ and will be a great representative for us as we look ahead to Glasgow 2014.

“We’ve been talking with Christine for some time now so it’s with great pleasure that we’ve signed this sponsorship deal now she’s done the double. Usain has too; and Mo; and marathon champ Richard Whitehead. And so have we, by doubling the broadband speeds of millions of customers this past year. Now we’re getting excited about 2014 as I know Christine hopes to compete for what could be yet another double – her second Commonwealth Games gold next year in Glasgow.”

Christine Ohuruogu, 29, said: “The crowd at London 2012 was really special and it was such an incredible feeling to race in front of so many passionate people. I hope the atmosphere and support in Glasgow in 2014 will be the same all over again. Working with Virgin Media, we want to get people from all over the Home Nations excited about another amazing sporting spectacular that’s right on our doorstep.”

Like all Virgin Media brand ambassadors, Christine Ohuruogu will make regular appearances over the next year including in forthcoming marketing campaigns.

As well as an Official Partner of Glasgow 2014, Virgin Media is the Presenting Partner of Athletics at the Games which will take place from 23rd July to 3rd August 2014 and will feature 6,500 athletes and officials from across the Commonwealth. They will compete in the largest sporting and cultural event to happen in Scotland in a generation. Up to one million tickets are available for 11 days of world class competition, with up to 15,000 volunteers showcasing the best the city has to offer.
