New for summer 2014 About Argyll Walking Holidays is offering a walking tour of the Shetland Isles, combining visits to places of interest and short easy walks of no more than 6 miles a day. Running in May and July, the tour takes in St Ninian’s Isle, Jarlshof, Mousa, Fair Isle, Fethaland, Culswick, Unst, Burra and Noss.

“Shetland is a unique place with long hours of daylight, beautiful landscapes, abundant wildlife and a rich cultural heritage. We pride ourselves on exploring those parts of Shetland which few other walking holiday operators visit. This tour offers the chance to visit the remotest inhabited island in the United Kingdom – Fair Isle. Our journey to Fair Isle by plane is one of the highlights of tour, offering spectacular views of the ocean and Shetland’s many islands”, says Frieda Bos, owner of About Argyll Walking Holidays.

Also running 2014 is a hiking holiday to Shetland with new itinerary and longer walks of 6 to 10 miles a day. The holiday includes walks at Fitful Head, Nesting, Uyea in Northmavine, Yell, Papa Stour and Muckle Roe.

“Our new walking holiday offers coastal walks full of interest. We visit new locations like the remote tidal island of Uyea with its sandy beach and turquoise waters and old favourites like the red granite island of Muckle Roe”, Says Frieda.

The walking tour will run from 24th to 31st May and then from 26th July to 2nd August 2014. The hiking holiday will run from 5th to 12th July.

“These new additions to our walking programme mean that we will offer trips to both Orkney and Shetland next year. We’ve especially scheduled our visits to these islands so that you can visit both over a two week period!” says Frieda.

All of the walks are led by a qualified, well-informed and welcoming guide and the base for both trips is a carefully selected bed and breakfast in Lerwick.
