REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - Dell’Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, announced today that while Carrier IP Telephony market revenues declined 12 percent overall versus the year-ago period, sales of IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) Core, Session Border Controller (SBC) and Voice Application Server (VAS) systems grew 26 percent. On a combined basis, GENBAND and Alcatel-Lucent now represent over one-quarter of the SBC market’s revenue.

“Wireless network construction activities are now a major driver to Session Border Controller sales. As wireless projects have emerged from the planning stage and have begun generating vendor revenue, it is clear that service providers have been broadening their supplier relationships for critical carrier voice equipment such as the SBC,” said Chris DePuy, Vice President of Carrier IP Telephony research at Dell’Oro Group.

The overall Carrier IP Telephony market, which includes devices used to serve both circuit switched subscribers and Voice over IP (VoIP) subscribers, reached nearly $1.4 billion.
