American cable giant, Home Box Office, Inc., has threatened to sue Edinburgh Free Fringe comedian Darius Davies for $50,000 over the title of his free show; Darius Davies: HBÖ Special.

Davies received a cease and desist letter from the American cable giant, home of such shows as Game of Thrones and The Sopranos, and renowned for it’s comedy specials. HBO’s lawyers insist that Davies has attempted to mislead consumers by using both their name and logo and threaten that he could face significant fines of up to $50,000 should he not cease and desist advertising his free show.

In a statement Davies has insisted that his show is in fact named after the Organisation Haitienne de Boxing (translated to the Haitian Boxing Organisation in English) and furthermore that he has used an umlaut over the ’O’ making a clear distinction between himself and the American Cable monolith. Davies went onto say that he would stop advertising his free show Darius Davies: HBÖ Special (10pm Meadow Bar, Edinburgh) after the 25th August, he also added that he was willing to offer a ’bucket split’ (a collection made at the end of free fringe shows) with the cable network in order to not jeopardise any future working relationships.

End.
