Statistics star Nate Silver keynotes at JMP conference

Discovery Summit 2013 launches the latest version of JMP® statistical discovery software

CARY, NC - Nate Silver, author of The Signal and the Noise and founder of FiveThirtyEight.com, will discuss using data to make predictions and decisions at Discovery Summit 2013. The annual analytics conference, hosted by the JMP business unit of SAS, convenes Sept. 9-12 at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio.

Silver has been the public face of statistical analysis and data-based forecasting since he correctly predicted the 2012 presidential election outcome in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

On day one, SAS co-founder and Executive Vice President John Sall will talk about “Working with Data: Making Hard Things Easy” and introduce the latest version of JMP software, JMP 11. Sall’s speech will be available for viewing via live webcast.

Other conference highlights:

* Age and the athlete. Richard D. De Veaux, C. Carlisle and Margaret Tippit Professor of Statistics at Williams College, will use modeling and graphical analysis techniques on two big data sets to tell a story about the effect of age on sports performance.
* Celebrating statistics. JMP users will show how they are using data to perform consumer research, gain insights from unstructured text, forecast ice concentrations in the Arctic, communicate epidemiological results, and more.
