Better Apps or More Pixels? IFA DisplaySearch Business Conference to Highlight Shifts in CE Industry Supply Chain

Presentations to focus on the latest TV and display technology trends, as well as the increasing importance of user experience, apps, and connectivity

SANTA CLARA, CALIF. - NPD DisplaySearch, the worldwide leader in display market research, today announced the agenda for its upcoming IFA DisplaySearch Business Conference, on 9 September 2013, from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the ICC Roof Garden in Messe Berlin. The theme of this year’s conference is “Better Apps or More Pixels,” highlighting the on-going tension between hardware and software in the TV business, as user experience, apps, and connectivity with other devices have become increasingly important.

New research on consumer behavior will be presented to help attendees assess whether enhanced display technologies or new services appeal more to consumers. Attendees will also receive in-depth market assessments from NPD DisplaySearch analysts and industry leaders. Other presenters at the conference include executives from EBU, HbbTV, InView Technology, Marseille Networks, Open IOTV Forum, Panasonic, TP Vision, Sky Deutschland, Sony Europe, and Vestel.

“With a surge of new TV technologies like 4K×2K and OLED reaching retail in 2013, the industry is trying to revive consumer interest in the big screen and revitalize the market,” said Paul Semenza, Senior Vice President of NPD DisplaySearch. “Our conference will address the many challenges inherent in this revival, including the increasing influence of software on featuring and the user experience in both TV and mobile devices, and changes in consumer usage and behavior.”

The conference will begin with a keynote presentation by Metin Salt, general manager of R&D at Vestel, who will address moving from hardware to software in consumer electronics. Other sessions include the following:

* Trends in TVs and Connected Displays: An in-depth assessment of the state of the global TV industry, including technologies, manufacturing and supply chain, regional market trends, product featuring, brand competition, and consumer behavior
* Consumer Behavior Panel Discussion: Consumer behavior is revealing why some services and devices are successful while similar ones fail.
* 4K×2K Panel Discussion: Go beyond the hype with insight into the state of the technology, program production, and services.

In addition to the conference presentations, there will be opportunities for attendees to ask questions of the speakers, both during sessions and in networking breaks, as well as the opportunity to interact with sponsors at tabletop exhibits. The conference concludes with a complimentary Oktoberfest Pavilion reception and dinner.
