In a world where education is becoming increasingly expensive, Educents is a company with a mission: to provide every family access to affordable educational materials. Founded by two women who’ve been working in the education field for over 15 years, Educents’ core values are centered on students, educators and continual learners of the world.

With over 70,000 active members (the site just launched on April 2, 2013), Educents negotiates discounts with established suppliers (up to 90% off) and passes the savings onto teachers, parents and homeschoolers.

Since launching on April 2, 2013, Educents’ has reached over 500,000 families schools and learners and has helped publishers sell over 1 million dollars worth of inventory, and saved consumers over $500,000 by featuring handpicked, unique and exclusive educational deals on their site.  “We truly believe in the power of education and that everyone has different learning styles. There is no one-size-fits-all approach and we hope that by providing a vast array of items each week, there will be something for everyone on our site” says co-founder Kate Whiting. Currently hosting a variety of wonderful retailers that offer their products at discounted rates, Educents is captivating the education world and changing the status quo of how educational materials reach the classroom.

Whether it’s a college classroom engrossed by a zealous professor (which is where two of our founders met), a reader hunting for answers, or a duo delving into a fiery debate, our pursuit of knowledge flows through our connections and our love of learning. Imagine the possibilities when affordable education is available to all. That’s the idea behind Educents.

About the founders:

Kate Whiting: Prior to co-founding Educents, Kate worked as the Director of Publicity at Weis PR, overseeing B2C public relations and marketing initiatives for many different clients, including Clif Bar and Leap Frog. Following that, Kate became the Chief Marketing Officer for two highly regarded education websites, overseeing all marketing, sales, and branding efforts for the companies. Kate was recently honored with a Goldman Sachs Business Leadership Award, has an MBA degree from the Lorry I. Lokey Graduate School of Business and an undergraduate degree from Mills College.

Kaitlyn Trabucco: Before she became a co-founder of Educents, Kaitlyn managed operations at Tiffany & Co., and consulted for small-businesses and start-ups. She also worked as a volunteer Port-au-Prince, Haiti, helping underprivileged women start their own businesses. Somewhere in between, she found herself receiving an MBA at the Lorry I Lokey Graduate School of Business where she met the other Educents founder, Kate. It did not take long for the two to realize their strength together and well, as they say, the rest is history.
