MAN backs budding engineers at Formula Student Germany 2013

MAN is supporting four university teams in this year’s international construction and racing competition.

MAN is supporting four university teams in the international construction and racing competition Formula Student Germany 2013.

From July 31 through August 4, 2013 115 international university teams are vying for the honours on Germany’s famous Hockenheimring with racing cars they have designed and constructed themselves. The Technical University Munich, the University of Munich, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Nuremberg’s Georg Simon Ohm University of Applied Sciences will have sound backing from MAN. The sole sponsor from the commercial vehicle sector, MAN is providing each of the teams with a truck to transport their racers to all Formula Student meetings in Europe. These trucks from the TGX and TGL series will carry the cars to the course efficiently and reliably. The would-be engineers are supported by MAN trainees in the production of lathed and milled parts as well as in building a tyre transporter. What is more, in the run-up to the events the teams were able to put their racers through their paces on the MAN test course in Munich.

MAN is also a member of the jury that judges the concept and engineering of the participants. Those interested can also experience the fascination of racing sport first-hand next to the course. On its show stand MAN is presenting the 1500 hp TR 1400 racing truck in which Fritz Kreutzpointner won the European Truck Racing Championship in 2001.

Formula Student Germany is an international engineering design competition that offers students the opportunity of developing, designing and producing a racing car themselves. The highlight is the presentation of the vehicles at the annual race on Hockenheimring. This is where the prototypes have to show what they are capable of in terms of acceleration, handling, fuel consumption and endurance. Extra to the actual racing, the jury of experts will rate construction theory, costing and even the business plans of the individual teams.
