Simulator training in Silverstone: Fine-tuning ahead of the two forthcoming on-track events

Munich (DE). The 2013 Formula BMW Talent Cup participants visited the iZone Driver Performance Centre in Silverstone (GB), where it underwent a series of comprehensive simulator training sessions in preparation for the next two on-track events. These will take place at the Red Bull Ring in Austria on 10th and 11th July, and from 6th to 8th August at the Slovakiaring in Slovakia.

For the talented young drivers, who are receiving extensive preparation for a career in professional motor racing courtesy of BMW, the forthcoming events also form the next steps en route to the highlight of the season: the “Grand Final”, which will be held in Oschersleben (DE) in September, as part of the DTM weekend. The winner of the three races in Oschersleben will receive financial backing from BMW for a season in a higher-level, single-seater racing series in 2014.

“This was the second time this season’s drivers had travelled to the iZone Driver Performance Centre to complete an extensive programme of training modules,” said BMW works driver and head instructor Dirk Adorf. “The goal was to back up what they learned during the first simulator training course in Silverstone, and then to complete the intensive, individual preparations for the on-track events at the demanding circuits in Austria and Slovakia. All the participants successfully mastered these challenges. They have now completed their simulator training. I am already looking forward to the forthcoming two on-track events, at which the drivers will once again have to put what they have learned into practice.”

As well as additional fitness and mental training sessions, the programme in Silverstone also included comprehensive media coaching, with a focus on TV training. In several extensive tutorials, motorsport journalist and sport reporter Nina Wünsch of Sky TV Germany coached the young drivers in the art of appearing live in front of a TV camera.
