H&M Conscious Foundation Supports Flood Victims in India

In response to the devastating floods in northern India, H&M has donated USD 100,000 to support Save the Children India’s relief efforts. The money will help finance for instance hygiene kits, water purification tablets, food baskets and warm blankets to 5,000 families in the ten worst-affected villages.

Floods that have become known as the “Himalayan Tsunami” hit the northern mountainous state of Uttarakhand on Sunday 16 June. The floods were triggered by excessively heavy rainfall as the annual monsoon rains arrived nearly a month earlier than usual.

According to estimates by Save the Children India and media, more than 150,000 people, almost half of them children, are estimated to have fled their homes and are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. Around 1,000 people are estimated to have lost their lives. Thousands of stranded families and children in the Uttarkhand district are in urgent need of food, clean drinking water and medical assistance.

The H&M staff in India has also taken the initiative to personally donate money to their fellow countrymen.
