New Yoga Book “Chakra-Jnana Yoga“ Offers Unique Insights

WEBWIRE

The recently published book Chakra-Jnana Yoga teaches how awareness of the chakras (subtle energy centers) can be brought into any yoga practice.  In addition to revealing how common yoga poses connect with the chakras, the book also discusses over a dozen various chakra-breathing techniques.  The final section of the book gives specific practices for transforming the mental-emotional aspects of the chakras.

Chakra-Jnana Yoga is divided into three sections that correspond with the physical, energetic, and psychic aspects of the chakras.  The first portion of the book is called, Hatha Yoga Poses for the Chakras, and focuses on how yoga poses affect the subtle energy centers.  Using anatomical and energetic explanations, the author makes it easy to understand how the various poses associate with the chakras.  For instance, poses that affect the inner groin, lumbar-sacral area, and hips open and energize the second chakra.  Poses like warrior, boat and triangle influence the third chakra since they all require core strength and balance.  In this section of the book each chakra is discussed along with various poses and mini-sequences.

The second section of the book, Chakra Breathing Techniques, teaches various methods of using the breath to vitalize the subtle energy centers.  Starting with simple practices, the book reveals how to feel the energy of the chakras, and how the breath may be used to move energy within and between the centers.  Also included in this section is how the bandhas (energetic locks) may be used to more powerfully strengthen and move the subtle energy.

The final portion of the book is called, Jnana Yoga for the Chakras, and essentially teaches methods for releasing the mind from its contractions.   The word jnana is usually translated as knowledge, and this section of the book can be thought of as a type of yoga for the mind and spirit.  Since each chakra is associated with fundamental aspects of our mental-emotional and spiritual being, the book introduces methods that can be used to alleviate psychological suffering, while shifting one’s consciousness to a higher state of spiritual awareness. Since this book is less about theory, and mostly about actual practice, it is a must have for anyone interested in having resourceful methods for working with the chakras.
