Region of Peel Releases 2011 Corporate Energy Consumption and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Report

Brampton, ON - - On Feb. 28, 2013, Regional Council endorsed the Energy and Environment Sustainability Strategy, which focuses on managing the Corporation’s energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The Strategy seeks to guide the Region of Peel towards achieving its corporate goal of reducing energy related GHG emissions to 80% below the 1990 levels by 2050, as outlined in the 2011-2014 Term of Council priorities.

As part of the Green Energy Act, Ontario Regulation 397/11 calls for the development and implementation of energy conservation demand management plans for public agencies such as the Region of Peel. The regulation also requires the Region of Peel to make public, its energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions for specific facilities identified in the regulation.

Internally, the Region of Peel has worked collaboratively to gather the data needed to complete the report which is due to the Ministry of Energy on or before July 1, 2013. The report details the corporation’s energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions for 2011.

The Region of Peel will be submitting its energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission report to the Ministry of Energy on an annual basis to ensure reporting compliance.
