Calhoun Cycle host US Championship in Minneapolis.

The Brompton US Championship took place on Sunday 23rd June in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
A field of over 50 participants donned their jackets and ties on a warm Sunday morning to take on the 6 mile closed road course on Lyndale Avenue South. Part of the ’Open Streets Minneapolis’ event, BUSC 2013 kicked off the road closure with large numbers of spectators enjoying their morning coffee whilst cheering on the well dressed Bromptoneers.

The competition was hotly fought – particularly in the male category where the race for 1st place went right down to the line. Final positions were as follows:

Male category:
1st Stephen Regenold
2nd Spencer Morse
3rd Nick Bither

Female Category:
1st Becky Alexander
2nd Susan Todzy
3rd Megan Tuvak

The first placed male and female were rewarded with flights and entry to the Brompton World Championship, due to be held at Goodwood Motor Circuit at the end of July. Two other competitions which were also hotly fought were the more irreverent ‘Best Dressed’ contest and the Brompton folding competition. On the lookout for dapper dressing with attention to detail, the best dressed competition was judged by local tailor John Meegan. The folding competition followed an eliminator format with heats where the slowest folding competitor was dropped before the following round. Todd Crawford managed to beat off the competition and showed consistently speedy folding to take the prize.

The Brompton US Championship was organised by Calhoun Cycle, a Brompton dealer in Minneapolis. Along with the main race, Calhoun arranged a number of other Brompton events that took place over the weekend. Saturday saw a couple of rides take place; one multi-modal trip – riding 30 miles out of Minneapolis for lunch before returning by train – and another, shorter, Urban Ride which took in many sights around the city. Both rides ended up back at the shop for refreshments and, ater o,n some music by guitarist Michael Morris. Such hospitality was made all the more impressive as the shop, along with a few hundred thousand other properties, had been left without power following a particulalry vicious overnight storm. Good work guys!
