One in six Brits know of NHS cover-up
Around 17% of British adults know someone whose poor treatment has been covered up by the NHS following a complaint.
One in six British adults know someone whose below-par treatment on the NHS has been covered up following a complaint, a recent YouGov survey has found.
The survey comes in a tumultuous time for the NHS following the cover-ups that allegedly took place at a Cumbria hospital after a nine-day-old baby died in 2008.
Thirty families have now taken legal action against Furness General Hospital in relation to baby and maternal injuries and deaths from 2008.
The survey found that 17% of people personally knew of someone who had received poor care from the NHS and that their complaint was covered up.
The number of people who “do not trust” the NHS to be fair and transparent with regards to its standards of care has increased by seven per cent. Last week 51% of people had “no trust” in the NHS and YouGov’s recent survey found that this had risen to 58%.
The number of people who trust the honesty of the NHS has dropped to a third. Following on from a series of negative events in the NHS only 32% people surveyed trust them.
