Use your mobile subscription abroad at national tariffs? It´s possible with Go Europe from Mobistar, a first on the Belgian market

Brussels - Most Belgian consumers make far less use of their mobile phone when they’re in a foreign country. One-quarter of them even stop using it entirely the moment they cross the Belgian border. But as of June 24th, Mobistar’s “Animal” subscribers will have no more reason to use their mobile phone any differently abroad. For 3 euros per day of actual use, the new Go Europe option will enable them to use the minutes and texts from their Belgian mobile subscription in over thirty European countries, with in addition 25 MB of data per day for Dolphin and Panther customers. Launching this innovative offer makes Mobistar the first Belgian mobile operator that enables its customers to use their mobile phone abroad “just like at home”.

Mobile rates within the European Union have fallen sharply in recent years. Nevertheless, many Belgian consumers still fear finding unpleasant surprises on their invoice the moment they use their mobile phone abroad. The figures prove it: according to a study conducted by GfK Significant for Mobistar, one-quarter of Belgians don´t use their mobile phone at all when they’re travelling in another European country. If they remain distrustful, it is notably because they don´t know how much this usage will cost them: 94% of those interviewed admitted that they have no idea how expensive a call made from their mobile phone in another European country will be.

To reassure consumers and give them ease of mind when telephoning from abroad, the best solution would be to allow them to use their mobile phone in Europe in the same way they do in Belgium. And that’s exactly what Mobistar is offering with Go Europe, an innovative new service that will be available starting June 24th for all its customers with an “Animal” subscription. From now on, they won´t have any more worries about their invoice, since calls initiated and texts sent from over thirty European countries will be deducted from their Mobistar subscription just as if they were national communications. And mobile Internet users haven´t been forgotten, either, since Dolphin or Panther customers who activate Go Europe will also enjoy 25 MB of data per day.

The Go Europe service costs 3 euros per day of actual use. In other words, the customer pays only for the days on which he really uses his mobile phone in one of the European countries concerned. Activating Go Europe is simplicity itself: all you have to do is enter #123# on the keypad of your phone and follow the instructions, or activate the service via the customer zone on Mobistar´s website or via the MyMobistar application.

By making it possible for customers to use their mobile phone abroad just like they do at home, Go Europe constitutes a first on the Belgian market. Mobistar already played a role of innovator last year in the roaming area by launching Travel Data Control, a service that enables users to set their own maximum budget for using mobile Internet abroad.
