79th Annual San Mateo County Fair Breaks Attendance Records

(SAN MATEO, CA) The San Mateo County Fair organizers have announced that the 79th annual San Mateo County Fair, which concluded on Sunday, June 16th, exceeded attendance goals of 120,000, with a 20 percent increase in attendance over 2012.  This year’s Fair also surpassed attendance for the 2011 fair—one of the largest attended fairs in several years.
 
According to San Mateo County Event Center’s General Manager, Chris Carpenter, “We have developed an integrated marketing, advertising, public relations and social media program with a solid team. The successful numbers demonstrate that our program and content are resonating with the community. We thank our Fair attendees, volunteers, participants, Fair Oversight Committee and San Mateo County Exposition and Fair Association Board of Directors for their direction and support as well as Congresswoman Jackie Speier for “Make it In America” and San Mateo County Supervisor Adrienne Tissier for Disaster Preparedness Day. We have already started planning based on input, research and data from our Fair attendees and the community, for next year’s 80th Anniversary Fair.” 
 
This year’s Fair expanded the Technology and Industrial Arts Department, brought in musical talent from Three Dog Night, Starship Featuring Mickey Thomas, Morris Day, The Whispers, award winning tribute bands Aerorocks and Queen Nation and Tower of Power for two nights. The Rainforest exhibit has developed into a regular featured attraction along with Super Science.  Livestock, Carnival Rides and the Pig Races were still considered the biggest draws to the San Mateo County Fair. Of particular interest to kids and their parents this year were the Technology and Industrial Arts exhibits where children and teens could watch the Frisbee throwing robot from the Aragon High School Robotics Team, or deconstruct electronics such as copiers and circuit boards, and learn to make Apps and video games.
