WEBWIRE

OMAHA, Nebraska, July 31, 2006 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), a world leader in satellite communications equipment and satellite network support and control solutions, today announced that it has been awarded a 6-month, $1 million contract by the U.S. Air Force Electronic Systems Center (ESC) to complete a concept development study concerning the integration of National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS) environmental satellite data into the Air Force Weather Weapons System (AFWWS) strategic centers. The NPOESS, a joint Department of Defense, Department of Commerce and NASA program, collects global atmospheric, oceanic, terrestrial and near-space environmental data and disseminates it to U.S. civil and military users.

“Harris support to ESC and the Air Force weather community spans more than 35 years, so we are very pleased to have this opportunity to continue working with them on this vital study effort,” said Jeremy Wensinger, group president of Integrated Systems and Services for the Harris Government Communications Systems Division. “Developing a roadmap for the integration of a new generation of environmental satellite data sources into current and future ground processing architectures is a tremendous challenge. Harris looks forward to meeting that challenge as a key member of an innovative, forward-looking ESC-Air Force Weather Agency (AFWA)-industry team. Ultimately, this very important study will lead to enhanced battlespace awareness for the warfighter.”

The Air Force ESC will use the results of the NPOESS Data Exploitation Study (DES) to determine the optimum and most cost-effective end-to-end configuration for the ingest, formatting, storage, assimilation, dissemination and archiving of NPOESS data into architectures at the AFWA located at Offutt AFB in Nebraska and the Air Force Combat Climatology Center (AFCCC) in Asheville, North Carolina.
