Sammamish Club of Issaquah and Arena Sports are hosting their second annual Aerobathon, a series of fundraising events throughout the month of June.

All proceeds from the event benefit Art with Heart, a local not for profit organization that creates materials and programs that help kids deal with stress and adversity through expressive, therapeutic books and the power of creativity.

Last year’s Aerobathon event raised over $19,500 for Art with Heart and the fundraising goal for 2013 is $30,000.

Monies raised will be used to complete the development of the new Art with Heart book Draw it Out, a book specifically targeted to elementary aged kids who are facing grief and loss in their young lives.

“One of the first major uses of the books and programming will be in support of the Newtown Community and the children at Sandy Hook Elementary school, where Art with Heart is already helping” according to Staffanie Lorig, Founder and Executive Director of Art with Heart.

The Aerobathon was the brainchild of John McKinnon, Sammamish Club Group Exercise and Personal Training Manager.  McKinnon attended an Art with Heart event and was drawn to the cause.  He developed this fundraiser by combining two of his passions; helping others and bettering oneself.

According to McKinnon, “monies that are raised through healthy, more positive ways are more impactful.  Through this month-long project our members are doing good things for others while they are also doing good things for themselves, and that’s a true blessing.”

Sammamish Club and Arena sports members are encouraged to set fitness and fundraising goals and create fundraising teams and participate in as many events and activities as possible to fulfill both objectives.

Most of the events are open to the public.

Events include special classes through the month along with a 7-hour soccer marathon for players 16 and older, a 5 -hour Aerobathon, an obstacle course, BBQ and fun events for kids.
