Telstra customers headed to the snowfields in New South Wales and Victoria this ski season can now enjoy 4G coverage with Telstra switching on its super fast network in Falls Creek, Mt Hotham, Perisher and Thredbo.

Telstra’s Networks Executive Director, Mike Wright, said many Telstra customers have come to rely on the speed and reliability of Telstra’s 4G mobile network at home, work and increasingly while on vacation.

“Our customers want a great mobile broadband experience at work, rest and play and our new 4G service at key Australian ski field means they can conveniently share their skiing and snowboarding adventures with family and friends.

“The faster speeds available through 4G means customers can more quickly download large files and upload photos and videos for sharing. This means people can do their very own snow reports via video chat with jealous friends back in town or share videos of new tricks from the halfpipe straight on to YouTube.

“We do however encourage our customers to ski responsibly, and not use their device while tackling a ski run!”

Telstra 4G coverage is available in most of the village areas at Falls Creek, Mt Hotham, Perisher and Thredbo and some of the ski slopes. Jindabyne and Mt Buller ski slopes will also be covered by the 4G network within two weeks.

“We are committed to extending the reach of our 4G network and are on target to cover two-thirds of the Australian population by the end of this month and continue taking our service to even more places,” said Mr Wright.

“Ski fields are one of those places where a large number of people congregate for specific periods of time each year in a really social atmosphere, so it made sense to deploy our 4G network there.

“As well as providing faster speeds for customers who have a compatible Telstra 4G device, our 4G network provides a whole other capacity layer. We maintain our existing 2G and 3G networks, so 4G becomes another lane on the virtual information highway to carry our customers’ data.”
