“The chemistry has to be right” – New BASF e-journal

A good partnership is the key to mutual success. The new Coatings Partner e-journal, which can be downloaded at http://www.coatingspartner.com/ , describes the sustainable cooperation between BASF and its customers. For instance, for the production of Hyundai’s new HB20 model, a shortened application process is being used for the first time in South America. This process requires less time, energy and material. Also in North America, Nissan is relying on BASF’s coating expertise and integrated waterborne processes for the production of its new Pathfinder and Infiniti models.

“We have to understand our customers and be open, since when it comes down to it, a functioning partnership is based on the people involved. Here, the chemistry has to be right,” said Dr. Alexander Haunschild, Senior Vice President, Automotive OEM Coatings Europe, in an interview with Coatings Partner. The company not only supplies paint, but also offers comprehensive services and develops innovative coating technologies. These include the new low-solvent ultra-high solids paints that are successfully used at the mobile crane manufacturer Terex® Cranes’ plant in Zweibrücken, Germany, and the new FGuard® 3D paint system, which lends furniture surfaces the appearance of real wood.

Buildings as power stations

How can buildings generate energy? The new issue of Coatings Partner finds an answer to this question: SPECIFIC, the Sustainable Product Engineering Centre for Innovative Functional Industrial Coatings in Baglan, Wales, is investigating how buildings can generate their own power in the future. SPECIFIC develops functional coatings for roofs and façades from glass and metal. Together with its established business partner Tata Steel, BASF supports the innovative development center.

R-M® is a strong partner for automotive refinishing

In 2012, Europcar selected R-M® automotive refinishing products for the maintenance of its fleet in the emirate of Dubai. R-M is a premium brand of BASF. In Coatings Partner, Shabna Rahjesh, Quality Manager at Europcar, and Carl Roy, Sales Manager of
R-M’s distributor Dahiya Auto Spare Parts LLC, report on their successful collaboration.

R-M’s new Matt Shade Concept provides impressive effects with its SILICATOP and SATINTOP clearcoats. They bring about perfect application results, ranging from a deep matt to a semi-glossy satin.

Social projects and partnerships

When it comes to social commitment, BASF supports long-term projects and partnerships. With the Growing with Sport project, for instance, BASF, with its leading decorative paint brand in South America, Suvinil, is supporting young people in Brazil. One of them was today’s professional soccer player Neílton Meira Mestzk, whose hat trick at the 2013 São Paulo Junior Soccer Cup led the FC Santos to victory.
