The Save Babies Through Screening Foundation (SBTS), a non-profit organization dedicated to Newborn Screening advocacy, has just announced the election of Kristine Brite McCormick to its Board of Directors. Kristine will act as Director of Congenital Heart Defects Programs. After the death of her daughter, Cora, from undetected congenital heart defects, Kristine became passionately engaged in Newborn Screening advocacy work. Her strong personal conviction and mission grew out of the knowledge that Cora might still be alive today had she received CCHD screening.

Turning grief into positive action, Kristine has been a powerful voice, calling attention to the importance of Newborn Screening. In her home state of Indiana, she was instrumental in passing the nation’s fist CCHD screening legislation. Her advocacy work has impacted numerous other states touching the lives of thousands of pregnant woman and mothers. Up until her recent appointment to the SBTS board of directors, Kristine served as an advisory board member since 2012.

Her simple philosophy is that every newborn child deserves to be thoroughly screened to prevent unnecessary death. Kristine also strongly supports and advocates for blood spot and hearing screening. In addition to her commitment and passion for Newborn Screening advocacy, Kristine brings a wealth of experience and skills to SBTS; from communications, to web development, to writing and social media.
