Material provides toughness, dishwasher durability

Kingsport, Tenn. — — Eastman Chemical Company is featuring tableware from Tzeng Shyng, made with Eastman Tritan™ copolyester, at the 2013 National Restaurant Association Show from May 18 to 21 in Chicago. Several of the company’s blow-molded products, which are part of Tzeng Shyng’s top retail drinkware line, will be on display at Eastman’s booth, No. 4181. Tritan, a new-generation copolyester, provides toughness, dishwasher durability and clarity, and is free of bisphenol A (BPA).

“Customers and end users are very pleased with the line of products we’ve developed using Eastman Tritan™ copolyester,” said Kevin Newman, sales and marketing senior vice president, Tzeng Shyng.

Durable and flexible
Tzeng Shyng produces extrusion blow-molded stemware made with Eastman Tritan™ copolyester for major retailers including Sam’s Club, Wal-Mart, Target and Pottery Barn. Products in this line include stemmed and stemless wine and champagne beverageware. The design flexibility of the material enables Tzeng Shyng to use existing molds to create its line of retail drinkware and tableware.

“We selected the material because of customer demand for tableware pieces that are high-quality and free of BPA,” Newman said. “It’s the only material that provides the combination of clarity, dishwasher durability and toughness consumers want in products they use often, put through the dishwasher and use by the pool or on the patio.”

Technical expertise
Tzeng Shyng looked to Eastman’s technical expertise to ensure the company manufactured the highest-quality products for its customers and to reap the benefits of the design flexibility of Eastman Tritan™ copolyester.

“Eastman is committed to helping Tzeng Shyng and all our customers by providing a quality material and technical support that results in high-quality products,” said Marty Boykin, Ph.D., global business manager, Eastman Chemical Company.

With the successful development of Tzeng Shyng’s tableware made with Eastman Tritan™ copolyester, the two companies continue to consider additional opportunities where the material can be used.

“We’re very pleased with the working relationship we have with Eastman, and we want to continue to grow and expand on our collections,” Newman said. “Eastman has been essential in the expansion of the food service aspect of our business by providing us with invaluable insight into that industry.”
