Big improvements in the way it handles and stores data on the more than 3,000 homes it manages across the southern Lake District have been reported by the area’s leading social housing provider, after it chose Salford based IT solutions provider LIMA Networks to manage and implement a major upgrade of its systems.

South Lakes Housing, an independent, non-profit, charitable social housing provider, based in Kendal, Cumbria, has recently undergone a major expansion, having taken over control of more than 3,000 houses in the beautiful southern Lake District, following a vote by tenants.
As a result, the charity needed to undertake a major upgrade of its IT systems, and so enlisted the help of LIMA Networks to completely rebuild the system.
The work included provision of a new, centralised data storage system, while Lima was also given the challenges of improving system availability, replacing slow data back-up and recovery infrastructure, and, most importantly, ensuring that the new system was both scalable and future-proof.
“This is a fairly typical dilemma which faces many large organisations, both public and private, in this technology-driven age,” said Lisa Thornton, Director of LIMA Networks.
“As well as replacing and upgrading large amounts of physical equipment, we were also required to ensure continuity of service for South Lakes Housing throughout the work, because, of course, its tenants’ needs have to be serviced 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and we were pleased to be able to achieve that for them,” Lisa added.
The work was one of many projects which LIMA Networks has carried out in close co-operation with large public, private and charitable sector organisations since it was established in 1997, which aim to provide quality IT solutions and support enabling them to provide value for money, increase productivity, and can grow with the business.
Paul Aitken, IT Manager of South Lakes Housing, said: “We have an excellent working relationship with LIMA Networks, and its experience of working with housing associations fills us with confidence.”
