DuPont Pioneer Jackson Production Plant Earns Minnesota Governor’s Safety Award

WEBWIRE

JACKSON, Minn., – The Minnesota Safety Council has awarded a Governor’s Meritorious Achievement Award to the DuPont Pioneer Jackson soybean production plant for superior performance in workplace safety and health.

“At DuPont Pioneer, the safety of our employees is our top priority and one of our core values,” said Dennis Smidt, Jackson plant production location manager. “We are honored to receive this award and appreciate the group effort taken by our employees to continuously improve our safety culture and promote safe behaviors.”

“An effective safety program reduces injuries and costs, maximizes productivity and builds morale,” said Carol Bufton, president of the Minnesota Safety Council. “Employers like DuPont Pioneer understand that protecting employees is not only the right thing to do – it’s also good business.”

The DuPont Pioneer Jackson soybean plant, which opened more than 30 years ago, produces soybean seed for growers in the upper Midwest. In 2011, the plant earned the Minnesota STAR Voluntary Protection Program designation for designing and implementing exemplary safety and health programs.

Since 1934, the annual Governor’s Safety Awards program has honored Minnesota employers with exceptional safety performance. Applicants are judged on several years of injury data as it compares with their industry’s national statistics, and on their progress in implementing a comprehensive safety program. The Meritorious Achievement award recognizes facilities that have incident rates that are better than the industry average for at least three years, and that earns a score between 50 and 74 on a 100-point safety program evaluation scale.

DuPont Pioneer Jackson plant is one of 227 employers who will be recognized at the Governor’s Safety Awards luncheon at the Minneapolis Convention Center on May 16. The Governor’s Safety Awards luncheon is part of the 79th Minnesota Safety & Health Conference, coordinated by the Minnesota Safety Council. The conference is the oldest and largest gathering of workplace safety and health professionals in the region. The Minnesota Safety Council, founded in 1928, is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in Minnesota by preventing unintentional injuries.
