Gutter Cleaning CT: New Video Provides Simple Tips For Checking Your Gutters

Connecticut Gutter & Exteriors has just released a new video that talks about the importance of gutter cleaning in CT.

In the video Frank Heneghan, owner of CT Gutter, explains to home owners a few simple things to look for, to insure that their homes stay dry and free of water hazards.

The first step is to look for obvious and noticeable debris in the gutters and hanging over the gutters.  Next is to make sure the downspout and elbows are clear.  Heneghan suggests a simple tap on the downspout and listening for blockage, as demonstrated in the video.  If the down spout is clogged it will sound heavy and blocked.  If it is clear, it will sound open and hollow. Lastly, have an idea as to how much water typically flows from the drains during a heavy rain, so you know when flow is abnormal.  Also make sure that all exits are clear of mulch and no pipes are crushed.  This is especially important to check after any work by a landscaper.

The most common times of year when gutters may need to be cleaned are in Spring and Fall. The majority of homes in New England have numerous trees on the property, so it’s not uncommon to require up to 5 cleanings per year.  With these few simple checks you’ll better be able to judge when it’s time to call for a cleaning.
