Air Conditioning Maintenance Especially Important After Hurricane Sandy

(Kenilworth, New Jersey, April 30th, 2013) It’s always a good idea to have your air conditioner checked out and serviced by a professional before the start of the peak summer season, but it’s even more important this year because of the extremes of weather that we have recently experienced, including Hurricane Sandy. 

During the past fall and winter, the components of your cooling system that are located outside the home were exposed to extreme weather including flooding, blizzard-like conditions and near-hurricane winds.  Fallen limbs and other debris caused by wet, heavy snow may have caused damage not outwardly visible without careful inspection.  These conditions, in combination with the normal deterioration caused by months of sitting idle, could lead to unexpected problems if not corrected before the summer heating season arrives.  There is no such thing as a convenient time for a cooling system to fail, but the best way to prevent it is to schedule regular preventive maintenance.

Regular maintenance of your air conditioning system can also help extend the useful life of your system and its parts. You wouldn’t drive your car 100,000 miles without a service checkup because without proper maintenance critical parts would begin to fail prematurely.  The same applies to your cooling system. 

“A well-maintained cooling system should provide years of comfortable service,” says Ring.  “If it’s not regularly maintained, however, it can fail unexpectedly and require an expensive replacement.  In many cases, this can be easily avoided, by relatively inexpensive preventive maintenance.”
