Acciona Agua named Water Company of the Year by Global Water Intelligence

ACCIONA Agua receives the highest award from the industry’s leading publication for the second time.

ACCIONA Agua has been named Water Company of the Year by Global Water Intelligence (GWI) magazine. The award acknowledges the company’s merits during 2012 and its contribution to international water industry development. In addition, the Adelaide desalination plant operated by ACCIONA Agua- has received a Distinction in the Year’s Best Desalination Plants category.

Global Water Intelligence is the international water market’s leading journal and its annual awards are voted by a subscriber base made up of more than 14,000 water industry professionals and experts.

This is the second time that ACCIONA Agua has received GWI’s highest award, and the seventh year in a row that ACCIONA Agua is honoured by GWI in various categories.

In 2012, the Mundaring drinking water treatment plant (DWTP), in Perth Australia, was honoured in the “Contract of the Year” category in acknowledgement of its contribution to advancing financing models for public-private projects (PPP) in the international water industry.

In 2011 ACCIONA Agua came away with two prizes: Contract of the Year for the Atotonilco WWTP in Mexico and Best Desalination Plant for the Beckton (London) desalination station; in 2010, the company was voted World’s Best Water Company; in 2009, The Beckton desalination plant came top in the Most Sustainable Project category; in 2008, the Tampa (USA) desalination facility was voted the year’s best plant of its kind, in recognition of the year’s most significant advance in desalination technology; and, in 2007, ACCIONA Agua was named Desalination Company of the Year.
