The new SEAT Leon leads the charge

WEBWIRE

The new SEAT Leon is to be the first of a wave of new models produced by the Spanish manufacturer. The new model is available to test drive at Essex SEAT showrooms, and it draws the best features from past models, whilst implementing new SEAT technology.

The first SEAT Leon was launched as a hatchback in 1999, and its sporty looks and pioneering engines made it an instant hit. The model became known as the Cupra when equipped with a 1.8-litre turbo engine, and the Cupra R when this was upgraded to a 207bhp version. Inspired by a World Touring Car Champion, the Cupra R is still thrilling drivers all around the world, with its new 2.0-litre TSI engine, capable of a blindingly quick top speed of 155mph (electronically limited).

With no intention of slowing down, the SEAT Leon range continues to go from strength to strength, and the all-new model has already achieved the WhatCar? “Best Small Family Car” 2013 award. The new Leon’s 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine outputs 181bhp of power, whilst reducing CO2 emissions to 99g/km and enabling economical combined fuel efficiency of more than 65 MPG, so it’s safe to say that it does its heritage proud.

SEAT has big plans for 2013, and the new SEAT Leon is to be followed by a host of new models, including the SEAT Leon SC – a sharp three-door sports coupé – and the SEAT Mii Ecofuel (currently not planned for sale in the UK), both of which were unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March of this year.
