WEBWIRE

For the past few years “Revolutionary Times Weekend” has featured an encampment at Morristown National Historical Park (MNHP) in April. This year, an extraordinary partnership between historic, municipal and cultural organizations have joined together to move this event to July 4th; a more patriotic time of year when families are on vacation and available to enjoy the celebration.

As part of the celebration, the reading of Declaration of Independence which is usually held at Washington’s Headquarters in (MNHP), will be recited by MNHP staff on the Morristown Green followed by family fun games and activities. In addition, the Town of Morristown has generously agreed to sponsor a dazzling fireworks display for the public to enjoy at Lewis Morris Park, where there will be music and picnicking. This family-friendly event supports the “liberty” theme in advance of New Jersey’s 2014 celebration of its 350th Anniversary and is dedicated to raising awareness of the role that Morristown area played in the Revolutionary War.

The esteemed partners for this event include thus far: Washington Association of New Jersey, North Jersey American Revolution Roundtable, Daughters of the American Revolution/Schuyler-Hamilton House, The Town of Morristown, Morris County Park Commission, Morristown National Historical Park, Morris Arts and Morris County Tourism Bureau.

Revolutionary Times Weekend serves to promote the historic importance of the Morristown area during the American Revolution with the boundaries of the Crossroads of the American Revolution National Heritage Area.
