Employment figures rose again at Schiphol in 2012

WEBWIRE

In 2012, employment figures at Schiphol airport continued to improve. After employment figures rose in 2011 for the first time since 2008, by 4.1%, the upwards growth continued in 2012 (an increase of 2.8%). A total of 64,061 people worked at the airport on 31 October 2012, 1,775 more than in 2011. As a result, the trends at Schiphol are better than those at a national level, where employment figures rose by 0.09% in 2012. This is evident from Regioplan Policy Research which publishes the ’Overview of employment figures at Schiphol airport’ every year on behalf of the Schiphol Group.

Trends in company categories
The employment trends are divided into four categories. At 11.4%, the strongest growth was seen in the ’other companies’ category, followed by 9% growth in the ’companies which supply goods and services to passengers and people and/or companies working at Schiphol’ category. Employment in the ’government bodies’ category grew by 6.1%, after remaining virtually stable in 2011. The ’companies which are directly involved in the transport of goods and passengers’ category shrank slightly, by 0.9%.

Trends in vacancies
The relative demand for personnel with a lower level of education experienced the strongest growth in 2012, increasing from 21.1% to 31.6%. The number of vacancies fell slightly in 2012; there were a total of 544 vacancies in October 2012, compared with 560 in the same month in 2011.

Place of residence
Compared with last year, little has changed when it comes to the place of residence of the Schiphol employees. 92.8% of Schiphol employees live in one of the four Randstad provinces: 58.9% live in North Holland, 20.6% in South Holland, 7.2% in Flevoland, 6.1% in Utrecht and 7.2% elsewhere in the country. The number of employees who live in Amsterdam has displayed a downwards trend over the past ten years, which came to a standstill in 2012; the number of employees from Amsterdam experienced slight growth in 2012, from 16.6% in 2011 to 17.2%.
