Saudia all set to face summer challenge

Saudia has approved its new flight schedule for the summer season that shows substantial increase in flights to be operated between the major Saudi cities. “There is a remarkable rise in international flights and it comes as part of the airline’s strategy to provide more seats to meet the increasing demand of passengers during the peak summer season,” said HE Eng. Khalid Al-Molhem, Director General of Saudia.

“This year’s summer season coincides with the Umrah season that continues until the end of Ramadan. It will be followed by Eid Al-Fitr holidays,” said Eng. Al-Molhem, adding that the airline has taken advanced preparations to meet the challenges of these peak seasons. “We’ll also coordinate with government departments at domestic and international airports to ensure smooth flow of flights, achieve on time performance and extend excellent services to passengers,” he added.



Saudia has set a number of objectives for its summer plan. They include 100 percent safety and security of passengers and aircraft, high rate of on time performance of flights, providing the largest number of seats on domestic and international flights, extending the best possible services to passengers by appointing well qualified staff, and increasing the number of workers at call centers.



“We have also introduced a number of advanced self services through Saudia’s website (www.saudiairlines.com), which has been developed to provide quick services with a high degree of efficiency. We have also developed an integrated site for self services through mobile phones in addition to automatic service machines at airports, shopping centers and other public places in different parts of the Kingdom,” the DG said.



Saudia will operate 1,428 flights weekly in the domestic sector, offering 169,098 seats against 1,370 flights with 164,094 seats in 2012 summer season, showing 4.23 percent increase in flights and 3 percent rise in seats. There will be 310 weekly flights between Abha, Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Madinah, Taif and Tabuk with a total of 40,524 seats, registering 3.37 percent increase compared to the summer of 2012.



Saudia will operate 54 flights weekly between Baha, Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, offering 7,128 seats, and 126 flights between Jazan, Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam providing 18,480 seats. A total of 72 flights have been scheduled between Taif, Riyadh, Dammam and Abha offering 9,504 seats (6% percent increase compared to 2012), 112 flights between Najran, Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam offering 11,880, 68 flights between Bisha and the three major cities providing 7,656 seats (6.25% rise), and 28 flights between Sharourah and Riyadh and Jeddah offering 2,640 seats.



Other flights are as follows:



• 8 weekly flights from Dawadmi to Riyadh and Jeddah (528 seats)
• 38 flights between Wadi Al-Dawasser, Riyadh and Jeddah (2,508 seats with 11.76% rise)
• 10 flights between Hufouf, Riyadh and Jeddah (1,056 seats, 4 percent increase)
• 146 flights between Tabuk and four major cities of Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Madinah (19,734 seats).
• 92 flights between Qassim, Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Madinah (10,296 seats, 7.59% rise)
• 84 flights between Hail and the three main cities (11,154 seats with an increase of 6.29%)
• 66 flights between Al-Jouf, Riyadh and Jeddah (6,864 seats with an increase of 6.12%)
• 42 flights between Qaisuma and Riyadh and Jeddah (2,772 seats)
• 12 flights between Wajh and Jeddah (792 seats)
• 14 flights between Turaif and Riyadh (924 seats)
• 32 flights between Gurayat, Riyadh and Jeddah (3,696 seats)
• 12 flights between Rafha and Jeddah (924 seats)
• 60 flights between Yanbu, Riyadh and Jeddah (5,676 seats)
• 40 flights between Arar, Riyadh and Jeddah (4,256 seats with an increase of 6.45%).



In his concluding remarks, the DG said Saudia is committed to implement its strategic plans to become a leading airline in the world. He said the arrival of new Airbus and Boeing aircraft would beef up its domestic and international flight network and help meet regional and international challenges. “We expect the arrival of (13) new aircraft including three Airbus 330s, six Boeing 777-300ERs and four Airbus 321s in 2013,” said Eng. Al-Molhem.
