Orion’s OnPoint™ Chosen for Implementation in Volusia County

Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada And Volusia County, Florida, United States Of America – July 24, 2006 – Volusia County has selected Orion Technology’s OnPoint™ web-GIS Software to empower county data both internally and externally.

Volusia County, situated on the east coast of Central Florida, is dedicated to educating residents on the topic of Geographic Information Systems. In addition to assisting in business growth and home-use of GIS with its freely available and downloadable data, the County seeks to provide efficient online, interactive mapping to it’s over 490,000 County residents. Volusia’s GIS team consists of four core IT staff members who in turn assist and support several strong user departments with over a hundred internal GIS users overall. This group pushes for the employment of geographic information in decision making at all levels. Volusia County has turned to OnPoint™, Orion Technology’s flagship product, to empower ESRI’s ArcIMS, in its mission to efficiently and effectively provide automated mapping, geographic analysis, and technical support to the Volusia County Council and County Departments.

OnPoint™ was chosen by the County to improve their responsiveness to both internal and external customers while improving the capabilities of their web based services. Volusia County has also found OnPoint™ beneficial in allowing the promotion of active data sharing between the County and local and regional governments.

Volusia County is using Orion’s OnPoint™ on both the internet and intranet. Easy location of parcels, addresses, and nearby facilities have been enabled with the search tools. One of the more popular uses of OnPoint™ at the County is to buffer a particular address or parcel and return those records that fall within a fixed distance. They also look forward to easily creating custom queries on data at the request of their internal customers.

Ultimately, Volusia County will be able to achieve their aspiration of serving a wider customer base quickly and easily through their web browser with Orion Technology’s OnPoint™. In addition, they gain the benefits of OnPoint™’s advanced security measures that allow a variation of data access among departments and external users.
