EMSL is proud to announce their successful participation in a global, inter-laboratory mycotoxin study. EMSL was one of only five laboratories in the United States invited to take part in this important research.

During this study a proficiency test (PT) was performed for the simultaneous determination of 11 mycotoxins in corn using LC-MS/MS. Mycotoxins included aflatoxin B1, aflatoxin B2, aflatoxin G1, aflatoxin G2, ochratoxin A (OTA), deoxynivalenol (DON), T-2 toxin (T-2), HT-2 toxin (HT-2), zearalenone (ZEA), fumonisin B1, and  fumoisin B2.

European researchers provided contaminated maize and spiked maize samples to 64 laboratories enrolled from 14 countries. EMSL was among 41 laboratories to return completed results. The results of this proficiency test will be used to identify methodology strengths and weaknesses. The published paper can be found at: http://wageningenacademic.metapress.com/content/e8080750r44154t7/fulltext.pdf.

“EMSL scientists take an active role in research studies when possible in order to further develop testing methods and improve our industry,” states Dr. Jason Dobranic, EMSL Analytical Inc.’s Vice President of Microbiology and Life Sciences. “EMSL’s microbiology division utilizes advanced testing methods to detect microorganisms and their products in environmental samples to help investigator determine exposures.”
