Snoop Lion: The Antithesis of Snoop Dogg now Anti-Violence, Still Pro-Marijuana

Nevermind Snoop Dogg. Snoop Lion believes in peace and follows the Rastafarian lifestyle. He won’t be detoxing from marijuana anytime soon, but his stance on non-violence is new, and welcome in a post Sandy Hook world.

It’s undeniable—the rebranded Snoop is a lot more mature, reasonable, engaging, and more universal. His recent appearance on Bill Maher confirmed this with upbeat views, and opinions that were based in fact—he came across as a wiser version of himself.

Snoop Lion credits the teachings of the Rastafarian lifestyle and religion to his “Reincarnation” and his new views and new music are taking on a definite anti-violence tone, with special respect to his latest release, “No Guns Allowed.” It’s hard to imagine that a Death Row label rapper could ever take such a sharp turn against guns and gun violence, but the praise for this pivot has been endless for the rebranded Snoop Lion.

But one thing Snoop has made clear is that he won’t be using any detox products anytime soon. As he stated on Real Time with Bill Maher, he has no plans of “giving up the herb” anytime soon, and told the show’s panel that it is a central part of the Rasta lifestyle because it promotes peace and centeredness.

While other rappers and hip hop stars of the younger generation still tout drug use, violence, and the objectification of women in the lyrics of their widely popular hit songs, Snoop has moved in a different direction. Although with the seemingly never-ending drug related run-ins with the law, perhaps drug use for hip hop celebs like Lil’ Wayne, Chamillionaire, and Chris Brown, a quality detox product might be just what the doctor ordered. Getting—and staying clean is an epic battle for music industry moguls, that’s nothing new.

But there seems to be a widespread open-arms acceptance for a renewed star like Snoop Lion whose drug use seems to be more therapeutic and spiritual than a practice of partying. And detox products aside, the public does sense the difference in philosophy and approach, which will likely translate to continues success for Snoop.
