The new Mazda6, launched in January of this year, is quickly gaining popularity, with all sectors of the market showing keen interest. As a family car with exceptional fuel economy and low CO2 emissions it is becoming a firm favourite, and the corporate market, ever-conscious of costs, is similarly attracted by the substantial fuel savings possible. The Mazda6 also won the What Car? Ultra-low-carbon Car of the Year award for 2013.

The design concept behind the Mazda6 is Mazda’s new “Kodo – Soul of Motion” concept, based on the speed, power and agility of the cheetah in the wild. This first featured in the Mazda CX-5 SUV and, with its bold front grille, powerful-looking shoulders and low rear-leaning cabin, the Mazda6 confirms the manufacturer’s decision to carry this concept forward in all future models. An ultra-high tensile steel frame forms the foundation of the car, making it both lighter and stronger. This, in turn, results in greater agility, cornering and manoeuvring.

Two versions of the Mazda6 are currently available, a four-door Saloon and a five-door Tourer estate. With the rear seats folded the Tourer can swallow up to 1,648 litres of luggage and even with the rear seats upright there is still room for 506 litres of luggage, making it the ideal family car. The three equipment grades are the SE, the SE-L and the Sport. All the primary driving function controls and switches have been ergonomically positioned around the driver, with rear seat passengers experiencing nearly one metre of leg room. Thanks to its multiple airbag system, Rear Vehicle Monitoring and Smart City Brake Support, the Mazda6 has been awarded a five-star EuroNCAP safety rating.

Fitted with Mazda’s SKYACTIV technology, power comes from 143bhp or 163bhp, 2.0-litre petrol engines, or 148bhp or 173bhp, 2.2-litre diesel engines. Six-speed automatic or manual transmission units are available and, when coupled to the latter, a combined fuel economy of up to 67.3 MPG is possible. For those wishing for more speed, the 174bhp diesel engine returns an acceleration figure of 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds, with a top speed of just under 140mph.
Motorists registering their new Mazda6 before the end of September will be eligible for a highly-desired “13” licence plate which closely resembles the letter “B”, an added attraction for all number plate message-builders.

With over 80 locations throughout the United Kingdom, the Bristol Street group is proud to be one of the largest nationwide Mazda dealerships. A spokesperson for Mazda commented “With the Mazda6 being our new flagship model, we are confident Bristol Street’s customers are going to be highly delighted with our latest vehicle. It offers them not only superb SKYACTIV technology, which gives outstanding fuel economy, but with our KODO design, it looks the part of the powerful and sporty thoroughbred that it is”.
